- How did you first get introduced to Selena and how did your tribute band to her come together?
I’m originally from Venezuela so my first introduction to Selena was through her movie. I remember I was about 9 years old and I was immediately touched by her story and amazing music. Since then I’ve been a Selena fan but it wasn’t until upon moving to Houston in 2013 that I discovered her tremendous legacy and impact she has in Texas/USA. I was astonished and continued to research deeper into her music, story and learn her repertoire. A close friend of mine recommended me as a musical entertainment celebrity act for a Hollywood Themed Party in Baytown TX, she suggested to the client that I could do a good Marilyn. When I talked to the client I suggested to do a Selena Tribute Act instead, since I could really connect with this character, luckily the client loved Selena as well (everybody loves Selena) and she accepted. I invited Juan Paul Hernandez (keyboardist/percussionist/singer) for this performance, and on Saturday, February 10, 2018, we delivered our first Selena Tribute Show as a duet. Since then, we’ve been blessed and haven’t stopped performing, now our duet has evolved into a full band Cristina Tribute Show – To The Queen of Tejano! We are now celebrating our show’s first year anniversary.
- Who designs and makes the outfits you wear?
The outfits that I wear are Selena replicas. I’ve had the pleasure to team up with several local and out of town seamstresses such as Yulissa Ochoa, Shannon Lynette Nichols & Laisha LaRue to recreate several of the outfits including the rhinestoned bustiers, flower bustier/skirt and rodeo jumpsuit. The simpler outfits are ensembles that I put together with pieces that I find on Amazon, Etsy, Ebay and local thrift stores.
- You are also part of another tribute band can you tell us a little about that project?
I’m the founder and lead singer for Cristina Tribute Show, I have an awesome team backing me up. Band members include Juan Paul Hernandez (Musical Director/Keyboard & Vocals), Johandy Ureña (Stage Manager/Drummer), Joan Gerardino (Percussion), Mike Borrome (Guitar), Gilberto Figueroa (Bass) & Gustavo Galarza (Percussion/Technician). Galith Creations, our amazing video/media team, and Pin Lim as our photographer.

During the day I’m a full time Administrative Associate at MATCH – Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston.
- Have you considered putting together an album of your own?
This is a tempting idea for every musician, I have considered it but our main focus as of now is to keep improving our show and grow our audience. An original album is definitely an interesting idea to consider in the future.
